SHOW NOTES

Today I am speaking with Brooke Tierney about student debt and loan forgiveness. Brooke is a speech language pathologist working in the elementary school setting in southern California. She graduated in 2018 with close to $90,000 in student loan debt. She is determined to pay off her student loans aggressively, by targeting one loan at a time. Brooke has been in repayment for nine months, and she has paid off $21,000 of student loan debt. She plans to pay off the remainder of her student loans in the next three years.

In our chat today, we learn what Brooke has done to reduce expenses, stay motivated and different types of debt payoff. Brooke also discusses loan forgiveness and the common mistakes SLPs make.

Topics/Questions:

1. Initially facing debt (after graduating)

2. Decreasing expenses, increasing income

3. Paying extra to debt (and how to pick which loans to target)

4. A few things to consider if you’re pursuing loan forgiveness
