Description: This session explores the connection between co-regulation and self-regulation, including why co-regulation must come first. We’ll review current research on behavior support approaches and share practical strategies professionals can use to recognize signs of dysregulation and act as regulating partners in schools and therapy settings.
Who This Course Is Good For:
- Any ASHA member, CCC holder, or other professional that is licensed or credentialed to practice speech-language pathology (SLP) or audiology or preparing to earn ASHA CEUs.
- Any professional who works with pediatric clients.
- Any professional who is seeking to learn more about co-regulation and self-regulation strategies.
- Any professional who is seeking to learn more about teaching social communication
Who This Course Isn’t Good For:
- Any professional who is not familiar with the terms Executive Function Skills or Self-Regulation
- Any professional that does not currently work with any pediatric clients that teach social strategies and do not plan to in the near future.
Presenters:

VENITA LITVACK, M.A, CCC-SLP
Venita is an Assistive Technology (AT) Consultant in south Florida. She has a passion for using AAC, AT, and literacy to support individuals with complex communication needs, autism, and other disabilities. Venita has delivered poster presentations on several topics related to AAC at ASHA and co-presented several ASHA CEU accredited courses. Venita co-authored two articles published in ASHA Leader’s online publication, as well as the Lou Knows What to Do book series published by Boys Town Press. Recently, Venita started utilizing the power of social media to empower and motivate educators across the country through the Speechie Side Up podcast, blog, Instagram account, and YouTube channel.

DANIELLE KENT, M.A, CCC-SLP
Danielle Kent is a licensed Speech-Language Pathologist with over 14 years of experience across a variety of clinical and educational settings. Since earning her Master’s degree in Speech-Language Pathology in 2011, she has been committed to empowering adults—both parents and professionals—to understand and support the development of self-regulation skills in children and adolescents.
In 2016, Danielle completed the prestigious Vermont Leadership Education in Neurodevelopmental Disabilities (VT-LEND) fellowship, further deepening her expertise in neurodiversity and interdisciplinary care. She is the owner and operator of Piece of Mind Therapy and Consulting, LLC, through which she provides statewide consultation and evaluation services, as well as professional development in areas such as self-regulation, executive functioning, and social communication within school settings.
Danielle is also the co-owner of VT AAC, LLC, where she and her colleague deliver specialized Augmentative and Alternative Communication (AAC) evaluations and consultations for students with complex communication needs. Together, they also offer professional development to school teams throughout Vermont around AAC, play-based learning, and literacy.
As an instructor with the Vermont Higher Education Collaborative (VT-HEC), Danielle teaches a variety of workshops and courses focused on her areas of expertise, including early language and literacy development.
She is currently a Ph.D. student in the Interprofessional Health Sciences (Speech-Language Pathology) program at the University of Vermont with a focus on neurodiversity-affirming communication evaluations and intervention strategies for minimally speaking children. In addition, she is the host of the Coaching Youth For Life podcast, where she shares insights and strategies for supporting youth development. Danielle is also the author of the self-published children’s book Max Learns to Pause, which she enjoys sharing with families and professionals alike.
