Description: This session discusses caregiver coaching techniques to support and inform families about Autism. This session also dives into evidence-based practice with the autistic population and how to incorporate data and science into clinical practice and autism assessment.
Who This Course Is Good For:
- Any ASHA member, CCC holder, or other professional that is licensed or credentialed to practice speech-language pathology (SLP) or audiology or preparing to earn ASHA CEUs
- A speech-language pathologist (SLP) who works with autistic children and other neurodiverse populations
- A speech-language pathologist (SLP) who works in an early intervention setting
Who This Course Isn’t Good For:
- Any professional who has an extensive background in caregiver coaching with autistic children
- Any professional that does not currently work with any pediatric clients or plan to in the near future
- Professionals that solely provide one-on-one therapy in a medical setting as this course is focused on daily routine implementation in a home-based setting.
Presenters:
CARA TAMBELLINI, M.A., CCC-SLP
Cara Tambellini is a Speech-Language Pathologist with more than fifteen years of experience. She received her B.A. in Psychology from Northwestern University (Chicago, IL) and her M.A. in Communication Sciences and Disorders from Northwestern University, which is ranked in the top 5 Graduate Speech-Language Pathology programs in the United States (US News & World Report Ranking). Cara has experience working in a variety of settings, including private practice, early intervention, schools, and rehabilitation hospitals. Cara uses evidence-based therapeutic interventions. She tailors speech therapy sessions to the individual needs of each client. Her clients look forward to speech therapy as Cara strives to make each therapy session fun and motivating. Megan Roberts, PhD, CCC-SLP
Megan Roberts, PhD, CCC-SLP is an associate professor in the Roxelyn and Richard Pepper Department of Communication Sciences and Disorders. Her work focuses on family-centered early communication interventions for young children with language delays. This clinically based line of research examines different variations of parent-implemented communication interventions tailored specifically for different populations of children with language delays. Her research has been funded by the National Institute on Deafness and Other Communication Disorders and the Institute of Education Sciences.
