SHOW NOTES

Introduction

This week I’m speaking with one of the funniest and sweetest SLPs I know, Katie Bernadkin!

In this episode we discuss work advocacy and how to effect systematic change for the students you serve, tips for identifying and seeking help for your students’ mental health needs, and we even have a surprise SLP caller!

Katie is one of the fiercest advocates for SLP’s that I have ever met. She serves as the SLP union rep for her district and has even been involved in advocacy with the congressional representatives of her state! I cannot wait for you to hear all of the important advice that she shares about this hard to navigate topic.

Topics/Questions:

How SLPs can advocate for better working and learning conditions for their students.

Getting involved with your teacher’s union.

Go-to therapy resources for the middle school population.

Tips for identifying mental health issues within your students.

Get to know you, Harry Potter Edition:

Would you rather read minds or see into the future?
Bertie Bott’s Every Flavor Beans or Butterbeer?
Would you rather lose your keys or your wallet?
What is your astrological sign?Hogwarts or Diagon Alley?
Would you rather be too hot or too cold?
Would you rather have an invisibility cloak or Hermione’s never ending bag?
